MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILITY

Now there is good news for Indian Mobile users. They can change their mobile service company without changing their existing mobile number. Nobody wants to change the number, which is using for years. But some of them are not satisfied with their service provider indeed.

Now TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India provides NUMBER PORTABILITY to solve the problem from 20^th January, 2011 onwards. We have to spend a nominal amount of Rs.19/- only to have this service.

There are simple rules to follow for it:

1.                  Type PORT and type your existing 10 digit mobile number after a space. Then send SMS to 1900.

2.                  You will get confirmation of your requirement alongwith a UNIQUE PORT NUMBER and validity date.

3.                  Next step is to purchase a new SIM CARD  from the new service provider (where you want to shift your number). For that you have to hand over a duly filled application form, a photo, identity card and the UNIQUE PORT NUMBER. Ensure that the application should be submitted within the stipulated period which was shown on the return message. Otherwise the validity will expire and you have to send another SMS.

4.                  After getting your new application, the new service provider will contact the old one and get all details of your account i.e. dues and other things. If there is no due or anything else, the new service provider will accept your application. You will get a new confirmation message from the new service provider in this connection. It will take 4-5 days.

5.                  Note that the process of shifting from old one to new one will take around 2 hours and you will not get any type of service from anybody at that time.
