SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES

The symptoms of this disorder occur because the cells in the body cannot utilize glucose due to lack of insulin. The cells are starved of glucose. Thus patients feel they have an increased appetite. Though a diabetic eats as much as a non-diabetic, his cells never get enough glucose. The cells, in an effort to get energy, start utilizing body protein and fat. This is what causes tiredness and weight loss among patients.

After the glucose level in blood reaches a particular level, it spills into the urine. In normal condition urine does not contain glucose. The presence of glucose in urine forces out more water with it and this leads to excessive urination. As a result of this 'water loss', the patient feels excessively thirsty. High glucose levels increase the chances of developing infections. In some cases the diabetics express these symptoms, but some don't have any symptoms at all. Sometimes a person comes to know that he is a diabetic only on examination.
