CARDINAL CLEEMIS LEAVES A KERALA MARK

CARDINAL CLEEMIS LEAVES A KERALA MARK ON CONSISTORY. AT 53, BECOMES THE YOUNGEST PRINCE OF CHURCH FROM INDIA.

Kochi: Adding a touch of Oriental religious flavour to the heavily European College of Cardinals, Syro-Malankara Catholic Church's Archbishop Mar Baselios Cleemis Thottumkal was anointed as Cardinal on Saturday.

In the consistory held at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI bestowed Cleemis with the ritualistic headgear and ring, elevating him to the elite club of "Princes of Church" who can elect the next Pope.

He is 53, and becomes the youngest Prince of Church from India.
