WHY KERALA DOESN'T INSPIRE CLASSICS

" No Screens for Good Movies, says Adoor Gopalakrishnan"

"Many theaters in Kerala were giving opportunities for the release of good, bold films in the past. Now those doors are completely closed" - Adoor

Panaji / Goa: Making a movie is no longer an arduous task thanks to advanced technology. But how would you show it to the world? Celebrated auteur Adoor Gopalakrishnan says Kerala, once a nursery for avant-garde films, offers few opportunities for directors of his ilk to make movies now.

Adoor was speaking after the screening of his 1972 classic " Swayam Varam" at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2012).

"It is nearly impossible to find financiers for good films. And there are few theaters willing to screen the kind of movies. I make, Distributors shun your movie, if it wins an award." said Adoor.

Adoor made "Swayamvaram" on a shoe-string budget, which won the national award. He went on to make 10 more movies, the last one - Oru Pennum Randanum - in 2008.
