Main Pilgrimage Centres :
sreekrishna temple ambalappuzha

Sreekrishna Temple, Ambalappuzha : situated 16 kms from Alappuzha. This temple is famous for ‘palppaayasam’, ‘pallippana’ and boat races. There is a drama house viz. ‘natakashala’ also in this temple. The art and sculpture in this temple is very beautiful.

Nagaraja Temple, Mannaarashala : This temple is situated enroute Kollam-Alappuzha National Highway, rear Haripad. This is a famous snake temple and the festival ‘Mannarashala Aayillyam’ is very famous.

St. Andrews Church, Arthungal : The Arthungal church is situated 22 kms away from Alappuzha, near Cherthala. This church was built by the Portuguese. St. Sebastian’s day is celebrated in this church on the month of January.
st.george church, edathua


St. George’s Church , Edathua : Situated on the banks of Manimala river, 12 kms away from Thiruvalla and 29 Kms from Alappuzha. This was built in the year 1810. The holy  mass conducted from May 5 to 7 is famous.

St, Mary’s Church, Champakkulam : This is one of the seven churches establised by St. Thomas. The annual Holy Mass here is on the third Sunday of October.
karumadikkuttan


Karumadikkuttan : It is a statue of Sri Buddha, in Karumady Village near Ambalappuzha. Built in granite,  now partly broken, this statue attracts visitors for years.

Main Tourist Centres

Krishnapuram Palace : Located at Krishnapuram village, 47 kms away from Alappuzha on the way to Kollam. This two-storied palace built during the period of Marthanda Varma is at present a museum. This palace is enriched with wall paintings and architectural engravings. A wall painting known as ‘Gajendramoksham’ is famous.

Pathiramanal : An island in the Vembanad Lake. Tbhis is accessible from Kumarakom or Muhamma by boat.

Punnapra Vayalar : The place where Travancore Police and Communists confronted each other during the freedom struggle on 1946. The martyrs memorial at this place is famous.

Champakkulam Boat Race : This famous boat race is held in the month of July. This is connected to the star ‘Moolam’ of the Malayalam month ‘Midhunam’.

Nehru Trophy Boat Race : A large number of tourists are attracted by the boat race conducted at the punnamada backwaters during the month of August.

Beach, Alappuzha : This is a very attractive beach. Facilities for boating and swimming are there in Vijaya Beach Park and Sea view park.

Water journey : ATDC has arranged facilities for boat journey in Alappuzha – Kollam route for tourists.. The journey starts at 10.30 am. From Alappuzha and reaches Kollam at 6.00 pm.
