Do you believe, In this temple, no god is worshiped but a dog
Whether you go to any temple in the country, you must have seen that in those temples, only the deities are worshiped.
Would you like to know about a temple where a dog is worshiped, not God? Yes, it is.
The idol of the dog has been installed in this temple and people worship the dog here with as much reverence as God is worshiped with reverence.
Kukurdev Temple is dedicated to dogs
A very ancient temple of 'Kukurdev' is situated in Khapri village of Durg district of Chhattisgarh. Address of Kukurdev Temple is 'Dudhhali, Malighori-Khapri, Chattisgarh - 491226. This temple is not dedicated to any deity but to a dog.
Shiva lingam has also been installed in the sanctum sanctorum of this temple along with a dog statue. Along with this, the statue of Ram-Laxman and Shatrughan has also been kept. Apart from this, the statue of Lord Ganesha made of the same stone is also installed in the temple.
How old is the history of the temple?
It is said that this temple was built by the Phani Nagavanshi rulers in the 14th-15th centuries. This temple of Kukurdev is spread over a radius of 200 meters.
The statue of dogs has also been installed on both sides of the temple entrance. People worship the idol of Lord Shiva as well as the dog in the same way as Nandi is worshiped in common Shiv temples.
In the temple, pictures of snakes are made in all four directions of the dome. Inscriptions of the same time are also present around the temple. On these, the settlement of Banjar, the shape of the moon and the sun and the stars are made.
Historical beliefs related to the temple
According to the belief, there used to be a colony of Banjars here.A Banjara named Malighori living in this settlement had a pet dog.
Once there was a famine in the village, due to which Banjare had to mortgage his beloved dog to the moneylender. One day the moneylender's house was stolen and the thieves saw the dog hiding the stolen goods in the nearby pond.
The next morning the dog took the moneylender to the place where the stolen goods were hidden. In this way, the moneylender got his goods again.
Pleased with the dog's loyalty, the moneylender wrote a letter and tied it to the dog's neck and sent it to its rightful owner. But after getting the dog back home, Banjare beat him so much that he lost his life.
After the death of the dog, Banjare realized his mistake after seeing the letter tied around his neck and Banjare built Kukur Samadhi in the temple courtyard in memory of his dog. Later at this place, someone also installed a statue of the dog, which is known today as the Kukur Dev Temple.
People's faith is associated with this temple
It is believed that there are people who have been bitten by a dog in this temple. Although no one is treated in this temple, there is such belief that by coming here, that person gets cured by himself. It is said that there is no fear of cough and dog bite by visiting here.By the way, there is a question of their faith and belief, if there is faith then God can be seen in the stone and if there is no faith then God also appears in the stone. It is a wonder of people's faith and belief that a dog is worshiped here as Kukudev.
